Ardis Witham

LEWISTON – Ardis Witham, forever known as “Nan”, of Skowhegan, died peacefully on Aug. 10, 2022.

Ardis prioritized her deep relationships with others both at home and professionally, where she brightened the days of her staff and customers as a manager at Cumberland Farms.

She was a talented seamstress and knitter, using these talents in the service of others. She made over 300 masks during the pandemic and donated them to schools and even people on the street. She sent a special Maine themed mask to Governor Janet Mills and was so pleased to receive a thank you note in return and to see her wearing it during a press conference. When a colleague was ill, she would knit dishcloths and sold them at work, donating the proceeds. Ardis knitted hats for babies at the hospital and mittens for children at school.

Nan loved her family unconditionally. Her grandchildren, Rachael Fulreader, Issac Witham, Jay Fulreader, and Kaylin Knox were a source of pride and brought her great joy. A highlight of her life was having her grandchildren with her for two weeks each summer for “Nanny Camp.” She would tell anyone who would listen that her grandchildren were perfect and talk endlessly about their accomplishments.

Ardis is survived by her three children, Douglas Witham and Sharon Burrill of Madison, Gary Witham of Smithfield, and Dianna Fulreader and John Fulreader of Groton, Mass.; her beloved grandchildren; and her siblings Virginia Lake, Wesley Boyer, and Albert Boyer; and predeceased by her brother, William Boyer.

A private memorial service for family members and friends will be held in September. Please visit http://www.SmartandEdwardsFH.com to share your condolences with Ardis’ family.
