Albert Hill Hague

HALLOWELL – Albert Hill Hague, 93, passed away peacefully in his home with his family at his side on Aug. 15, 2022.

Albert (affectionately known as “Bud”) was born on April 21, 1929, in Westbrook. He was raised on a family farm in Gorham with his parents Viola and Albert Hague and sister, Margaret Hague. He graduated from Gorham State Teachers’ College and taught school in Southwest Harbor for two years.

He changed careers and became an employee of the Depositor’s Trust Company. During his tenure with the bank, he attended Rutgers University, receiving his MBA. Albert started at a low-level position and rose to the top as the executive vice president and continued on in this position when Key Bank bought Depositor’s.

Albert was extremely civic minded. He was admired and well loved by his employees, peers, friends, and family for his sage advice, integrity, leadership, and his willingness to help. He used his vast banking skills serving on numerous committees and organizations for the City of Hallowell and was voted Most Outstanding Citizen of the year. He spent his summers at his lake house on Long Pond, Belgrade in Sandy Cove. He also immersed himself in the Sandy Cove operations, serving in many capacities. He truly was a pillar of the Hallowell and Sandy Cove, Long Pond communities.

Albert and Joan Hague, along with three other families, were the developers of the Timberpoint and Pinewood Point, Long Pond developments.

He was instrumental in the refurbishing of “the canon” on Powder House Hill. He gladly pulled this historical artifact using his favorite machine, a 1989 red Case International tractor in the Old Hallowell Day Parade. Albert was the source in the discovery of, and actively involved with the restoration of the crane displayed on downtown Hallowell’s Granite City Park, as well as being influential in the development of the downtown waterfront.

He loved music, played the banjo, and sang in a Barber Shop quartet. Albert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Albert is survived by his wife of 72 years, Joan Mosher Hague; his son, Stephen Hague and his wife Beth; his two grandchildren and their spouses, Eric and Vanessa Hague and Jodi and Ben Franklin; and his five great-grandchildren, Kira and Vienna Hague and Taylor, Madison, and Jackson Franklin.

Albert’s service will be held graveside at the Hallowell Cemetery on Monday, Aug. 22 at 12:30 p.m.
