Rickey J. Cody

LITCHFIELD – Rickey J. Cody, 64, passed away unexpectedly at home Monday Aug. 15, 2022. Rickey was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on July 9, 1958, the son of Esther (Goodness) and (biological father) John Cody. He graduated from Gardiner Area High School in 1977, continuing his education at NHVTC graduating in 1979 with an associate degree in Applied Science.

Rick was a Junior Firefighter for the Gardiner Fire Department and started his lifelong career as a full time Firefighter/EMT in 1985 working his way up to Firefighter/Paramedic. He attained the rank of Fire Chief in 2009 and retired in 2011. He took a year to enjoy retirement, but not one to sit around, he took a part-time job working for the Medicine Shoppe in Lewiston where he was a regular recipient of Employee of the Month, which resulted in a lot of teasing from family and friends. After two years he retired again only to start working as a maintenance man for The Birches Lakeside Campground in Litchfield in 2021. He was a member of the Litchfield Planning Board.

Rick was a family man, always willing to give a helping hand, support, or a glass of whiskey depending on the moment. He loved fishing, antiquing with his wife, making his metal artwork, tinkering on anything with a motor, and spending time at camp in Brownville.

Rick was predeceased by his mom, Esther, biological father, John; and his brother, Michael.

Rick is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 40 years, Lisa (Lovejoy) Cody; his son, Josh Cody and wife, Erika, daughter, Ashley Croll and husband, Joe; DAD Ron Evans; brothers Chris Cody and partner, Megan Mcguire and Jeff Cody and partner, Rachel Ellis; grandchildren he adored, Talon, Landon and Reign Cody and Avery and Olivia Croll; mother-in-law, Gloria Lovejoy; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kris and Steve Barron; special nieces Renee and Allison Barron, several other nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved dog, Sophie.

Rick had many friends in the fire service that he leaves behind.

At his request, there will be no service. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Rick will be laid to rest in the Dover Cemetery in Dover-Foxcroft.

The family would like to thank the Gardiner Fire Department and Litchfield First Responders for their valiant efforts to save Rick. They went above and beyond! A special thanks to Chief Rick (Otter) Sieberg and Gary Hickey and their close relationship with Rickey.
