LISBON — Two people were rescued but one person was reported to be missing Thursday night after a boat overturned on the Androscoggin River.

Local police and fire crews along with rescuers from the Maine Warden Service were on the river about 8 p.m. searching for the missing person. Few details were available. The vessel was reported to have overturned on the river in an area near to the Lisbon-Topsham town line.

Rescuers set up a base of operations at the Pejepscot boat launch off Route 196. More boats were being sent to the area as the search continued.

Two people were able to get out of the river, according to early reports, but one of their companions was unaccounted for. It was not immediately clear what kind of craft they had been riding in or what caused it to overturn.

The search was continuing later Thursday night.
