Carla Jean Bilodeau

FAIRFIELD – Carla Jean Bilodeau “The Brat”, 71, passed away August 24, 2022. She was born in Waterville on March 18, 1951, the youngest of eight children of Bernard and Bessie (Bickford) Jolicoeur.

Carla married her high school sweetheart, Larry Bilodeau, and together they raised two sons. Later they enjoyed spending winters at their place in Boynton Beach, Fla. with friends and family.

Carla graduated from Waterville High School in 1969 and attended KVCC in Fairfield. Over the years she taught CCD at Immaculate Heart of Mary and served as a den mother in Cub Scout Pack 471 and on the Lawrence Hockey boosters in Fairfield. She worked at LaVerdiere’s Drug Store in payables before she found her true calling of working with special needs kids. Carla had a big heart and a warm way of treating everyone she met like an old friend. These traits helped her excel in a rewarding 23-year career as a Special Education Tech at Lawrence Jr. High School where she retired in 2008.

Carla was full of life and mischief. She loved music, especially Elvis and owned every song he ever recorded. She enjoyed gardening and was protective of her flower beds. She loved to curl up with three blankets a glass of Roscato or a cup of tea and the latest Steven King book. She couldn’t avoid a yard sale and loved to haggle. Carla was an avid collector of miniatures, Cat’s Meow’s and Anna Lee Dolls. Her favorite thing to collect was sea shells with her three grandkids who affectionately called her Gram Gram. She had a passion for feeding people and no visit was complete without eating her delicious creations. Carla really enjoyed watching her boys and recently her grandkids play sports where she excelled in correcting the referees’ mistakes. Most of all, Carla enjoyed spending time with friends and family whether she was playing cribbage, at a family cookout, cheating at board games or playing cards The Brat always found a way to make it fun.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters Joyce Callahan and Elaine Jolicoeur, and her brother Renaud Jolicoeur.

Carla is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Larry; their sons Eric Bilodeau and Chris Bilodeau and his wife Laurie; her grandchildren Grace, Jack and Kera Bilodeau; her brothers Bill Jolicoeur and his wife Pauline, Steve Jolicoeur and his wife Katie and David Jolicoeur, her sister Linda Williams and her husband Walter, her brother-in-law Jerry Callahan, her sisters-in-law Lucille Breton and Dawn Bilodeau; family friend Donald Armstrong; as well as many special nieces and nephews, beloved friends and cat Sora.
