Carolyn M. (Gay) Dalling

READFIELD – Carolyn M. (Gay) Dalling, 80, died on Thursday August 25, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.

She died after one year of declining health. In that year, Carolyn enjoyed many outings with family and friends including her monthly wine parities with her fellow Winos, trips to the shore, shopping, and eating out. Through this time Carolyn was in the home of and lovingly cared for by her nephew Gary Boynton and his wife Lori.

The last of seven children, she was a graduate of Cony High School after which she joined the Army. In 1967 Carolyn met the love of her life and future husband, Frank Dalling, in Monterey, Calif. After two years of courtship, they married on March 24, 1969 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Frank and Carolyn traveled throughout 50 countries and all continents except Antartica, living in Berlin Germany, Naples Italy, where she wrote and published her book “Abanathy House”. They lived in Minneapolis for 20 years where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Nursing degree, graduating in 1993.

Carolyn and Frank returned to Maine in 1995 where she started working at Goold Health. After Frank’s death in 2017, Carolyn retired from the Maine General Medical Center where she worked as a care manager from 1999 – 2018.

Carolyn enjoyed first and foremost gin and tonic, wine, reading, cooking, “Carolyn was a great cook” bird watching, and animals, (especially dogs). Carolyn especially enjoyed spending time with her special friend of 20+ years Edna Brunelle.

Carolyn was predeceased by her parents; husband Frank Dalling, her five brothers, Parkman M Gay, Burton W Gay, Carleton H Gay, and Robert A. Gay, three sisters, Viola Gay, Lois Gay, and Attalie G. Boynton. She is survived by a stepson, Robert Dalling of Louisiana; five nephews, Gary W. Boynton Sr. and his wife Lori, Harry C Boynton Sr., Christopher Boynton, David Gay and his wife Karen, Ron Gay, three nieces, Debbie Ainslie and her husband Jay, Liz Caron, Valerie Pomerleau; and great niece Taylor Boynton who was an important part of Carolyn’s life, as well as additional great nieces & nephews.

Family and friends would like to thank the Maine General Hospice nurses and aids, with a special thanks to Carolyn’s nurse Kerri.

There will be a graveside service at East Readfield Cemetery on Sept. 10, 2022 at 2 p.m.
