PORTLAND – Martha “Marti” L. Donovan, 58, a resident of Litchfield, was reunited with her son, Jay, on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Maine Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 15, 1964, in Yuma, Ariz., the daughter of Irving Knowles and Cynthia B. (Blaisdell) Black.
She graduated from Gardiner High School, class of 1982. Marti took great pride as a fancy stitcher making boots and totes for L.L. Bean. She loved to sew and make many things, mostly for the sheer joy of giving them away. Marti was never happier than when baking for family gatherings, being a Yaya to her beloved grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to show love to her family. She enjoyed working with the Litchfield Fair Association.
Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Cynthia and Wilton “Sonny” Black of Litchfield; two daughters, Jenifer Smith and husband Blayne, and Khaila Donovan, all of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren; a sister, Charlene Brown and husband Mark of Vassalboro, a brother, Michael Knowles and wife Jennifer of Casco; several nieces and nephews; and her precious cats, Honey and Bonnie. She was predeceased by her father Irving Knowles; and adored son James “Jay” Michael Donovan, Jr.
