William R. Quackenbush
LITCHFIELD – William R. Quackenbush, 99, passed away on Sept. 2, 2022, at MaineGeneral Glenridge Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
William was born March 12, 1923, in Wyckoff, N.J., son of the late Roy P. and Mary (Ricker) Quackenbush.
William was a WWII United States Navy Veteran who held the rank of Fireman First Class.
In New Jersey, Bill owned and operated his own automotive business and later was a foreman at Curtis-Wright aeronautics.
Upon moving to Maine in the ’60s, he was employed by RCA and owned and operated a family campground on Tacoma Lakes.
Bill’s love of mechanics was especially evident in his work at his clock repair business during his later years.
He was a member of Christ Church, Gardiner and the American Legion in Litchfield.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret M. (Rountree) Quackenbush; and son-in-law, Richard Nicolazzo.
William is survived by his three children, William A. Quackenbush and spouse, Carole, of Windham, Pamela Nicolazzo of New Hampshire and Wendy Glidden and spouse, Dennis, of South Portland; as well as seven grandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
William’s service will be at the Chapel of Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta on Sept. 15 at 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
