Belfast Maskers plans to hold open auditions for “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” by Barbara Robinson at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18.

Auditions will be held at the Basil Burwell Community Theater, 17 Court St. in Belfast.

Robinson’s play is the riotous story of what happened when “the absolute worst kids in the world” collide with the Christmas story head on, according to a news release from the performing arts organization.

Roles are available for actors of all ages, genders, and abilities; families and individuals are welcome.

The audition process will include acting warm-ups and exercises, as well as readings from the play. For younger actors who are emerging readers, email director Emily LeBlanc-McConnell eleblanc2@yahoo.com to RSVP and receive a copy of the readings so they can become comfortable reading the lines. All other actors do not need to RSVP; just show up at the audition time.

There may be solo singing opportunities for child actors. Those who would like to be considered for a solo or duet, prepare to sing “Silent Night,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” or “We Three Kings” without accompaniment at the time of the audition. Masks covering the nose and mouth are required at this time in the Basil Burwell Community Theater.

Performances will take place at the theater Dec. 2-11.

More information about the auditions, including some descriptions of the characters, can be found at belfastmaskers.com/auditions. For more information, email Erik Perkins at erik@erikperkins.com.
