WATERVILLE – Lewis Donald “Bud” Hennigar passed away on April 22, 2020 in Waterville, just after his 94th birthday.

Born in Melrose, Mass. on April 19, 1926, Bud was the oldest son of Lewis Christian and Helen Parker (Anderson) Hennigar, two German heritage immigrants from Nova Scotia. He grew up in Melrose, Mass. with his brother Dana. As a young man he served in the U.S. Air Corps in Japan during World War II. Beginning with his father’s company Hennigar Door and Window and ending with his son’s Hennigar Door, Bud worked in and was well respected in the commercial door and hardware industry until his retirement.

A kind man with a love of sports and working with his hands, Bud was a devoted husband to Mariella Langley for their nearly 70-year marriage. They made a home together in Melrose, Mass. and later Topsfield, Mass. with their three children, Donald, Robert, and Nancy.

Bud and Mariella retired to New Hampshire where they enjoyed many rounds of golf. They also loved traveling to Pinehurst, N.C. to golf and connect with friends in the colder months. In their later years, they moved to Maine to live near their daughter, Nancy and her family.

Bud is dearly missed and remembered with love by his children Donald, Robert, and Nancy Burton, his daughters-in-law Nancy and Heather, and his son-in-law, Mark Burton; his seven grandchildren, Jake Burton, Jessica Marden, Jill Karatkewicz, Kyle Hennigar, Mallory Hennigar, Avery Hennigar, and Bryn Hennigar; and his six great-grandchildren, Ethan, Eli, and Everett Burton, Elle and Noah Karatkewicz, and Fynn Marden. He was missed by his wife Mariella before her recent departure on May 27, 2022. He is also remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Dana; and his stepmother, Muriel.

A memorial will take place at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta on Friday, Sept. 16, to celebrate the life of Bud and Mariella Hennigar.
