AUGUSTA – Mariella “Lala” (Langley) Hennigar passed away on May 27, 2022 in Augusta, with her devoted daughter, Nancy, by her side.

Born on Sept. 20, 1928 in Melrose, Mass. to Arthur and Anna (Diman) Langley, Mariella was the youngest sister to her brother, Arthur “Buddy” and her sister, Nancy.

A straight shooter with a dry sense of humor, she loved to play golf, watch basketball, and spot birds. She was a graduate of the Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene. She was a dedicated volunteer at the gift shop at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital in Lebanon, N.H. for many years.

Mariella shared 69 years of marriage with Lewis “Bud” Hennigar until his passing in 2020. They lived together in Melrose, Mass. and later Topsfield, Mass. with their three children, Donald, Robert, and Nancy.

Bud and Mariella retired to New Hampshire where they enjoyed many rounds of golf. They also loved traveling to Pinehurst, N.C. to golf and connect with friends in the colder months. In their later years, they moved to Maine to live near their daughter, Nancy, and her family.

Mariella is dearly missed and remembered with love by her children Donald, Robert, and Nancy Burton, her daughters-in-law Nancy and Heather, and her son-in-law, Mark Burton; her seven grandchildren, Jake Burton, Jessica Marden, Jill Karatkewicz, Kyle Hennigar, Mallory Hennigar, Avery Hennigar, and Bryn Hennigar; and her six great-grandchildren, Ethan, Eli, and Everett Burton, Elle and Noah Karatkewicz, and Fynn Marden. She is also remembered fondly by her many nieces and nephews.

A memorial will take place at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta on Friday, Sept. 16, to celebrate the life of Bud and Mariella Hennigar.

Arrangements are in the care of Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland, where memories may be shared, and an online register book signed by visiting http://www.familyfirstfuneralhomes.com.
