Ronald M. Coffin

NEW PORTLAND – Ronald M. Coffin, United States Army retired, of New Portland, has gone before us, on Sept. 8, 2022 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1937 to Harold and Ada Tripp Coffin in New Portland. He received his education in his hometown and joined the Army at the age of 17, serving a total of 27 years. He was in various units, the one he most loved was the 82nd Airborne Division, where he earned his badge in 1956.

He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and “The Coffin camp” on Hancock Pond that he and his wife built. He was a Maine Guide for several years, a lifetime member of the 82nd Airborne Division Association, American Legion, VFW, and lost control statistic line. He received many awards, most appreciated was the “Iron Mike Statue” for outstanding troop in 2002.

Leaving behind his beloved wife and friend of 61 years, Violet Norton Coffin; his only son, Clay Coffin and granddaughter Amanda Coffin Nelson, husband Jeremy and great-grandson, Matthew. He has many many nephews and nieces, friends and acquaintances.

He was preceded by his parents; two brothers, Harold “Sammy” Coffin, killed in action, in World War II and baby boy Coffin, two sisters, Caroline Coffin Dyer and Jackie Coffin Dostie.

The family would like to send out a special thank you, to the Maine Veterans home in Augusta, Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and Karen Holbrook for all the help and care given through this rough time.

A graveside service will be held in the North Cemetery of New Portland, on Friday Sept. 23 at 2 p.m.
