Bernette (Bard Laney) Harvey

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Bernette (Bard Laney) Harvey, 86, of Chattanooga, Tenn. passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the home of her daughter July 18, 2022. Bernette was born Aug. 15, 1935 in Fort Kent, Maine to parents Alcide and Cecile (Robichaud) Bard. She was the third of 12 siblings and spent her early years helping on the family’s potato farm.

As a young woman, Bernette moved to Waterville with her family. There she met and married John Laney from Skowhegan. Together they moved to Skowhegan and began their family.

Bernette spent most of her career as head cook at SAJHS. Bernette and John moved from Skowhegan to Oakland where she finished her career in the bakery of Shaw’s Supermarket, before retiring to Winterhaven, Fla. After John passed, Bernette met and married James Harvey. They moved from Winterhaven to Chattanooga, Tenn. to be close to her daughter and great-grandchildren.

Bernette was predeceased by her parents; husbands John and James; brothers Rosaire “Shoe”, Bertrand and Maurice Bard and sister Rosalind (Bard) Joseph.

Bernette is survived by her children Karen Blair/David, Brian Laney/Carol Lynn, Paula Bennett/Michael, Linda Hutchins/Steven, stepson Dirk Harvey, stepdaughter Tracey (Harvey) Fitch/Mike six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; eight siblings Leland/Fern, Ronald/Rita, Peter, Lorraine Belliveau, Valier/Janet, Claudette Rancourt/George, and Elaine LaChance/James; her sisters-in-law, Jill and Barbara Bard; and many nieces and nephews.

Internment service will be held graveside at Togus Veterans Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Rd. in Augusta on Sept. 29 at 12:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon immediately following. The address will be provided at the service.
