DAMARISCOTTA — An open mic event, celebrating music and verse, is scheduled for 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, in the big red tie out barn at Inn Along the Way’s, Chapman Farm, 741 Main St.

The event celebrates the sounds and spirit of the new fall season through music, song and spoken word, according to a news release from Marianne Pinkham of the Open Mic Planning Committee.

Rusty Hinges, Damariscotta Open Mic, inn tours and hay field walks is a by-donation fundraiser for the inn. The inn model is a unique and innovative community design in which older adults live interdependently in a neighborhood-style setting of small, environmentally friendly homes. The inn continues to welcome members of the greater community as well as serve those who seek respite and volunteer opportunities in a vibrant community setting.

In traditional Maine coast fashion, community members attending the inn’s fall harvest lawn and barn party are welcome to bring a picnic. Performer registration begins at 1 p.m. Festivities run from 1:30 until 4:30 p.m.

Rusty Hinges, whose performance will begin at 3 p.m., is a midcoast Maine band, playing an eclectic mix of acoustic music from folk music, from sea shanties to fiddle tunes, oldies to bluegrass and original tunes. Members of the band include Nancy Bridges, violin, guitar, vocals, penny whistle; John Couch, guitar, vocals, harmonica; John Monterisi, guitar, vocals; Dan Townsend, guitar, vocals; and Peter Saladino, electric bass, vocals.
