Jane A. Cochran

BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio – Jane A. Cochran, 82, recently of Bellefontaine, Ohio and formerly of Winslow, Maine, left this world very quietly and peacefully at her home in the morning of Sept. 22, 2022. She left to join her beloved sister Judith (Judy) A. (Buzzell) Cochran and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She was born in Skowhegan on July 31, 1940, to the late Basil A. Buzzell and Mary B. (Cook) Buzzell. She was educated in Oakland and attended some classes at the University of Maine.

On Sept. 5, 1956, she married her childhood sweetheart, Dana J. Cochran and he survives. They raised seven children in Oakland, four sons and three daughters, who all survive, Daniel J. Cochran, David J. Cochran (wife Dawn), Joy D. (husband Claude Leroux, Jr.), Jill D. Cochran (Donny Farrington), Jonathan D. Cochran (wife Cathe), DeAnna J. (husband David E. Trask), and Jeremy D. Cochran. We also remember Momā€™s fourth daughter by windfall, Diana M. (Otis) Cochran, who was always there with a song, a smile, and sentimental words and deeds so cherished. Jane is also preceded in death by Geneva Cochran, first wife of David.

Jane is survived by, her brother, Warren A. Buzzell and his wife Ethel (White) Buzzell of New Hampshire and Florida, whom she loved dearly, chatted with regularly and regretted leaving, especially so closely behind their sister, Judy. Their visits made to Ohio were one of the highlights of her last year. She is also survived by a brother, Wayne A. Buzzell of New Hampshire.

She was proud to be a grandmother to 18 children; great-grandmother to 28 children; and great-great-grandmother of one (Wesley Wall). She was the Aunt, Great Aunt, Great-Great Aunt, and cousin to many treasured nieces, nephews, extended family. She believed in family and there are several close friends who were always ā€œthe family she choseā€. Those members who were able to make their way to Ohio were greeted by her wide smile, loving hugs and just like the dinner table when we were growing up, there was always room for one more to join in.

Jane was a voracious reader of books, easily six to seven per week, she loved camping and boating in her younger days and would never miss her favorite programs, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! (Please donā€™t call during Jeopardy!). Her love of reading and her sharp-witted mind made her a great conversationalist and a lover of crossword puzzles. She was instilled with the love of baseball and the Boston Red Sox at the tutelage of her father and this love she passed along to her children. Jane was known for her ability to remember the dates of everyoneā€™s birthdays in her family and would quote them off easily when we needed a calendar or to be reminded exactly how old someone was. She was a competitive cribbage player and loved teaching her children and grandchildren how to play. She would never just ā€œlet you winā€ as learning the game and besting the champion was always such a triumph, followed by an immediate and familiar phrase ā€¦. ā€œLoserā€™s dealā€!

She was a strong Christian woman, who believed in the power of prayer, did daily devotions and read the Bible all the way through at least one time per year, out loud, with our father. She attended the Calvary Church of God for many years, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school from time to time. After this church, she attended several other local churches until her ability to be mobile was too diminished to attend in person. So many of the friendships she made in church survive to this day, and we thank all of those who have expressed their sincere condolences and shared how she touched their lives.

There will be a Celebration of Janeā€™s Life, Funeral and Graveside services held on Oct. 8, 2022, at Kingdom Life Church, 191 High Street, Oakland, Maine at 1 p.m. Graveside service immediately following at Lakeview Cemetery, Oakland, Maine.
