Lucille E. Gray

AUGUSTA – Lucille E. Gray died peacefully on September 24, 2022 with family by her side after living 98 full and happy years. Lucille was born in Exeter, Maine, September 30, 1924, daughter of Fredrick Leavitt and Ruth Edgerly Leavitt.

Lucille graduated from Corinna Union Academy in 1943. Lucille then entered Augusta General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1946. She was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corp and a member of the Augusta General Hospital Alumni Association. Lucille worked at Augusta General Hospital (now Maine General) for 40 years, retiring in 1986. She was the head nurse on the maternity floor. She was well loved in the community as she helped deliver hundreds of babies. She loved babies and loved her job as a nurse. Lucille was loved by all who interacted with her either as patients, doctors and many friends.

Lucille loved life and her family. She was often making pies in which she would share with others. She loved to cook, especially for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and anyone who stopped by. She loved to spend time with friends and family, you would not leave her home without a meal or a slice of pie. She always had a positive attitude about life and you would leave her presence feeling better about yourself.

Lucille was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, Clifton in 1999. They loved boating and they also loved traveling to the coast of Maine.

She was also predeceased by sisters Arlene, Rita, Elizabeth, Beverly, Bunny, Joyce, Mary Kay and her brother Stanely and daughter in-law Linda Morris Gray.

Survivors are son, Larry and wife Shirley from Litchfield, Maine; grandchildren, Kimberly and husband Glen Guerrette from Arizona, Angela Haskell of West Gardiner, Michael Gray from Augusta, Maine, Tim Brochu of Augusta, Maine, Tina and husband Jeff Canwell of Winthrop, Maine; great grandchildren, Brandon and wife Alicia Guerrette, Brittany Guerrette, Lucy and husband William Franklyn, Glen Guerrette II of Arizona, Jenna Kokernak of West Gardiner, Maine, Ronald Haskell Jr of China, Maine, Breanna Witham and Kelsie Cummins of Augusta, Maine. She is also survived by three great great grandchildren, Sean and Ysabelle Guerrette and Daphne Franklyn. She also has several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She attended the Baptist Chapel Service at the Veteran Adm. Center, Togus, Maine.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours. Lucilleā€™s funeral will be held in the Summer of 2023 with a date and time to be announced.
