Roy D. Gross

HALLOWELL – Roy D. Gross, 95, passed away at Maine General Medical Center on Tuesday Sept. 20, 2022.

Roy was born May 31,1927 in Waterville to David P. Gross and Fannie ( Johansson ) Gross. He was a graduate of Waterville High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S Navy for the duration of World War II. Upon his discharge he returned to Waterville and enrolled at Maine Vocational Technical Institute (which was located in Augusta) and in 1949 graduated with a degree in Auto Mechanics. He married Jeannette Poulin on Jan. 18, 1947 with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.

He was employed by Peterson Buick, Central Maine Motors and Huhtamaki (Keyes Fibre) from which he retired in 1992.

Roy enjoyed playing golf, bowling, fishing, woodworking and reading about World War II history. He also enjoyed trips to the Maine Coast, Bermuda, California, Florida and family gatherings, especially with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The last few months of his life Roy was a resident of Granite Hill Estates in Hallowell, Maine which he enjoyed very much. He said he felt like he was treated like a King!

The family wishes to express extreme gratitude to the staff at Granite Hill for the wonderful care that he received.

Roy was predeceased by his wife Jeannette in 2007; his parents; and his brother Ralph.

Roy is survived by his children, Ronald D. Gross and his wife Brenda of Randolph and Linda McAleer and husband Mark of Oakland; three grandchildren, Carrie Arsenault and husband Kris of Gardiner, Ryan Gross and his wife Amber of Brunswick and Andrew Gross of Randolph; four great-grandchildren, Samual and Ethan Arsenault of Gardiner and Jameson and Charlotte Gross of Brunswick.

He had a great sense of humor and will be missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday Oct. 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a brief service at Veilleux and Redington Funeral Home 8 elm Street Waterville.

Per Roy’s wishes there will be a private interment at Maine Veterans’ Cemetery with military Honors attended by Family members.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Veilleux and Redington Funeral Home 8 Elm St. Waterville.
