Corey Norman Nelson

CANAAN – Corey Norman Nelson, 53, passed away due to stroke complications on Sept. 25, 2022 at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, Maine, surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 17, 1969, to Barbara Spencer Nelson and Arthur Milo Nelson, a devoted son and father of twins. He graduated from Maine Central Institute and worked for his father’s paving business and as a sleep apnea technician. He literally would give you the shirt off his back and was a best friend to many people. He loved going to car shows to show off his ’57 Chevy that he and Dave had restored and going on fishing and hunting expeditions with his dad, Aaron and Jamie Smart, and Wayne Trafton.

Corey is survived by his children, Cody and Heather Nelson; two sisters, Gayle Maroon and her husband Derek of Winslow, and Tara Savage and her husband Carlton of Skowhegan; and brother, Michael Nelson of Canaan; his nephews, Kyle (his wife Inna) Liimatainen of Kennebunkport, Mac Nelson of Wilton and Camden McCrillis of Skowhegan; his nieces Kali Liimatainen of Bar Harbor, Destiny Nelson of Wilton, and Riley Trafton of Michigan. His three aunts Margie Goulette of Skowhegan, Priscilla Ackley of Old Town and Shirley Bennett of Skowhegan, and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Barbara Nelson; wife Susan “Suzi” Nelson, and several aunts and uncles.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurse Donae for their excellent care and compassion while he was in the hospital.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022 at 11 a.m., at the Fairview Cemetery in Canaan. Flannel shirts and antique cars are welcome. Following the service, there will be a lunch at 331 Waterville Road, Skowhegan with Just Like Mom’s food trailer on site.
