Dorothy “Dottie” Jean Macomber

WOBURN, MA – Dorothy “Dottie” Jean Macomber, 69, passed away with her loving husband by her side on September 24th, 2022, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She is the beloved wife of Roger McLellan, with whom she shared 19 years of marriage.

Dottie was born on July 17th, 1953, in Augusta, Maine to Jean Content (Wills) Macomber and Harold Eugene Macomber. She attended Kents Hill School where she was the Valedictorian of the graduating class of 1971. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Bates College in 1975, and, in 1977, her Master’s in Special Education from Boston College.

Dottie was a special education teacher in Massachusetts for over 30 years; many of those years were spent in the Chelsea Public Schools. During the last years of her career, she worked in the Woburn Public Schools as a Special Education Team Leader. She retired in 2011.

Dottie was a quilter. She was the secretary and past president of Saugus’ Hammersmith Quilt Guild, and was actively involved in many capacities, including organizing group functions and getaways. Dottie also loved being with her dog, Daisy, who she loved dearly. Dottie had many other hobbies. She was a genealogist and loved spending time researching her family genealogy. She was also an avid reader. She loved learning about birds, and feeding and watching the different species in her yard. Dottie took a special interest in supporting the Readfield Historical Society, and also the Readfield Union Meeting House.

She is predeceased by her parents, Jean and Harold Macomber.

In addition to her loving husband, Roger, Dottie is survived by her sister, Ann Hecker and her husband Robert, niece Abigail Caldwell and family, nephew Jacob Hecker, and Roger’s children and grandchildren, as well as many cousins and close friends.

Dottie’s graveside service will be on Saturday, October 1st, 2022, at the East Readfield Cemetery on the Plains Road in Readfield, Maine at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dottie’s name may be made to the Readfield Historical Society, P.O. Box 354, Readfield, ME 04355, or to the Readfield Union Meeting House, 22 Church Rd., Readfield, ME 04355.
