Ervin R. Dehmlow

AUGUSTA – Ervin R. Dehmlow Sr., 72, formerly of Bangor, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta following a long battle with cancer. He was born in Milwaukee, Wis., on Aug. 16, 1950, a son of the late Rolland and Alice (Shephard) Dehmlow.

Ervin graduated high school and entered the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War from 1969 to his honorable discharge 1973. During that time, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the First Good Conduct Award for Service. He also met the love of his life, Gladys (Carter) Dehmlow.

Ervin was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Rose Marie Taylor.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gladys E. (Carter) Dehmlow of Augusta; four children: Ervin Dehmlow, Jr. and his wife Julie of Hillsboro, Ore., Mark Dehmlow and his wife Amanda of South Bend, Ind., Krystal White and her husband Jared of Augusta and Jennifer Dehmlow-Silva and her husband Jason of Bangor; two brothers: Dale and Guy Dehmlow; and a sister, Mary Jo Caputa. He was especially proud of his grandchildren: Olivia, Andrew, James, Morgan, Emelia, Sylvan, Aislinn, Rachel, Catelynn, Jaxon and Roman. He is also loved and remembered by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including his “mom” Dakota Ryder.

He had been employed by Sam’s Club/Wal-Mart for 22 years in management. He had also worked for Home Quarters and Sherwin-Williams following his service in the Navy.

Ervin was a member of Faith Christian Church in Gardiner and was an avid fisherman, hunter, and bowler. He bowled for nearly two decades at Family Fun Lanes in Bangor, making many lifelong friends.

A service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 15, at 4 p.m., at Faith Christian Church, 280 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, and is open to all who knew and loved him. A burial will be at a later date in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
