David A. Sumner

OLD ORCHARD BEACH – David A. Sumner, 58, of Old Orchard Beach, died Sept. 27, 2022.

David was born Sept. 17, 1964, the son of Stanley and Lorraine (Hall) Sumner. David graduated from Hall-Dale High School in 1982 and the University of Maine Orono in 1986. As a member of ROTC he received his diploma and then served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force for a short period of time.

After college David taught school for 7 ½ years. He then moved to State services to work for the remainder of his career, first at the Department of Human Services and most recently the State Department of Labor as a Career Center Consultant, a place he truly enjoyed and where he got to meet and work with people of all walks of life and cultures, leaving them with his kind and caring response to their needs.

David is survived by his parents Stanley and Lorraine Sumner of Farmingdale; daughter, Lyndsey Sumner, of Westbrook; brother, Brian Sumner, of North Hollywood, Calif.; aunt, Dixie Sumner Wilson, of Tenn.; special cousin, Mrs. David Thomas, of Waterville; cousins Richard P. Cotter, Tracy Adkins, and Gaye Lynn Mullen and their families, as well as many, many other cousins. David will be sadly missed by all.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a service at 12 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Burial will follow the service in Forest Grove Cemetery, Augusta.
