WINSLOW — A vehicle came to a stop Monday inside a house on China Road after veering off the road and into the building, according to the Winslow Fire Department.

The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, which in Fire Department photographs appeared to be a small SUV, and he was headed from Winslow to China when he “ended up inside the house,” near the intersection with North Pond Road, according to Winslow fire Chief Ronnie Rodriguez.

Images from the scene show the vehicle appeared to have hit a corner of the house before coming to a stop inside, leaving a gaping hole.

It was not clear Monday what had caused the driver to hit the house shortly before noon, and Rodriguez said he did not know if the driver might have suffered a medical event or what other circumstance could have contributed.

It was also not clear whether anyone was inside the house at the time of the crash.

Emergency responders were determining Monday whether the house was structurally safe, Rodriguez said.

Sgt. Alexander Jones of the Winslow Police Department said it did not appear the driver or anyone else had suffered serious injury.
