Beatrice E. Doyle

AUGUSTA – Beatrice E. Doyle, 84, passed away Oct. 1, 2022 at MaineGeneral Rehab & Nursing at Gray Birch. She was born March 23, 1938, daughter of Waldo and Doris (Bangs) Drake Sr.

Bea grew up early on in Oakland, but her family soon built their home on the Pond Road in Sidney, where she had fond memories growing up near her grandparents who started Bangs Beach on Messalonskee Lake. Bea always loved her cars, and she was a skilled driver; she cruised around in her 50’s Chevy Impala, then later her red 1965 MG-B convertible, taking frequent trips to the beach with her dear lifelong friend Roberta Morin and to Saturday night dances.

After graduating from Williams High School, Bea worked in the office for local builder Stewart & Williams. She later worked as a bank teller at the First National Granite Bank, and then, Bank of Maine.

She had a keen mind for detail and accuracy. When Digital Equipment Corp. came to Augusta, she began one of her most enjoyable periods of her employment as an assembler and then later with inventory/production control. When Digital left Augusta, she worked the rest of her career for the State of Maine, retiring from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Bea always enjoyed spending time on Bailey Island and being near the ocean, especially trips to Estes Lobster Pound with her close friend Pat Harriman.

Bea had a green thumb, growing flowers of all sorts. She could spot fiddleheads anywhere. She loved all animals, especially her cats and dogs who always seemed to love her back just as much.

Bea was a devoted mother who gave her time and love unconditionally. She did thoughtful things for those she loved without being asked. We will miss seeing her pull in with her shiny red Honda – often with a snack or to bring flowers – Bea would always brighten our day.

She is survived by her loving son, Brendan Doyle of Augusta; several nephews; along with her long-time dear friends, Roberta Morin and Pat Harriman.

Bea was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Waldo Drake Jr., and Kenneth Drake; along with her infant son Sean.

A period of visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330. A graveside service will follow at 12:30pm at Sawtelle Cemetery, Pond Rd., Sidney, Maine. Condolences, stories, and photos may be shared by visiting http://www.plummerfh.com.
