John L. St. Clair

PITTSFIELD – John L. St. Clair, 75, died peacefully on Oct. 5, 2022, in Pittsfield.

John was born on Nov. 22, 1946, in Portland, a son of the late James and Lois (Connolly) St. Clair. He graduated from Portland High School with the class of 1966 and served our country in the United States Navy, stationed in Cuba.

John was a guy who liked to tease and he was known for being a tad bit grumpy. He was a sports fanatic, especially a Boston sports fan, and enjoyed following his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events. He enjoyed spending his money on Amazon and collecting baseball cards as well as coins. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting around a fire, enjoying it year round with a cigarette in one hand and a Coors Light in the other. He was a founding member of the Sebasticook Valley Elks #2713 and also had belonged to the local bowling leagues.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Wendy; children Joshua and wife Jessica, Jamie, and Andrew and wife Erica; he was “Bamp” to his grandchildren Parker St. Clair and partner Sonja, Levi Johnson, and AJ St. Clair. He is also survived by former son-in-law, Tim Johnson; sister, Judith St. Clair Smeltzer, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Mark and Kathi Susi and Mike and Debra Susi; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, and they request casual attire (jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies). A private graveside service will be held for the family at the Maine Veterans Blue Star Memorial Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Avenue, Augusta, with military honors being provided for his service to our country.
