Richard “Dick” Magoon

NORTH ANSON – Richard “Dick” Magoon, 85, of North Anson, passed away on Oct.7, 2022, at his daughter’s home in Ellsworth, with his family by his side. He was born in Crawford, Maine, to Robert and Dorothy (Day) Magoon on May 27, 1937.

Richard went by many names… Dick, Dickie, Dad, and Grampie, just to name a few. Dick and his wife Pat were married for 66+ years, beginning their life in Downeast Maine, then later settling in central Maine. He loved their home on Fahi Pond in Embden, enjoying the nearby hunting and boating, or just watching the passing seasons. Dick was always quick to tell a joke or story (or stories, if he got on a roll). Most of which were true for the most part (he always liked a good ending).

Dick graduated from Shead Memorial High School, where he excelled in academics, basketball, and baseball. After high school, he attended Colby College for two years before beginning his work career. Dick worked as a machinist and millwright for several companies, including GP, Cianbro, and Madison Paper. He also owned and operated several logging trucks over the years, and enjoyed hauling with his cousins, the Day brothers.

Dick was predeceased by his wife Patricia Magoon earlier this year, missing her every day since her passing. Dick is survived by his five children, daughter Valerie Herbert and husband James of Ellsworth; son Tim Magoon and wife Kathy of Old Town; daughter Lisa Brannan and husband Patrick of Maybell, Colo. son Frank Magoon and wife Julie of Carrabassett Valley; and daughter Laurie Soucik and husband Chuck of North Las Vegas, Nev. He is also survived by his sister Judy Gamble and husband Robert (Bobby) of Meridan, Conn., sister Patricia Magoon of Meridan, Conn.; close cousin Betty Lou Prescott of Palmyra, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Devon Murdock, Neacail Murdock, Megan Randlett and husband Josh, Matt Herbert and wife Emily, and Andrew Herbert; and three great grandchildren: Christopher Murdock, Hannah and Sadie Randlett.

Dick will be laid to rest with his loving wife at Eastport’s Bayside Cemetery on Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home Calais & Eastport. Condolences and Memories may be shared at http://www.MaysFuneralHome.com
