Constance S. Buckley

LEEDS – Constance S. Buckley, 97, a resident of Leeds, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, at her home with her loving family by her side. Her family remembers her as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a caring and giving individual to her community and church.

She was born Feb. 20, 1925, in Litchfield, the daughter of George Clinton Smith and Dorothy (Frost) Smith. She was educated in the Monmouth schools and graduated from Monmouth Academy. She received her nursing degree from Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston where she worked as a registered nurse in the operating room until her marriage in 1950. Connie served as a cadet in the Cadet Nursing Corps during World War II.

On Sept. 30, 1950, in East Monmouth, she married R. Gilbert Buckley. Mr. Buckley passed away on June 26, 2005. They made their home in Leeds where they raised their children, Dwight and Sharon.

Connie was a faithful member of the Leeds Community Church. For many years she served as the Leeds town treasurer. The Town of Leeds honored her with the Boston Cane which was presented to her by her son, Dwight. She enjoyed going out for a ride just to get an ice cream.

She is survived by her son, Dwight Buckley and companion, Lois Hathaway, both of Leeds, her daughter, Sharon Leslie Buckley of Leeds; two grandsons, Aaron James Buckley and wife, Becky, and Brett Gilbert Buckley and wife, Teasha; three great-granddaughters, Liz, Mallie, and Courtney, great-grandson, Will; her brother, Kenneth Smith and wife, Rita, of Greene; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Gilbert Buckley; seven brothers, Roger, Robert, Raymond, Roland, Fred, Ralph and Milton Smith, and three sisters, Alberta Tapley, Amber S. McCabe, and Frances McCabe.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Leeds Center Cemetery, Route 106, in Leeds. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Leeds Community Church, 123 Church Hill Rd., in Leeds, directly following the graveside service. Arrangements by Bragdon-Finley Funeral Home, 707 Main St., in Monmouth.
