Tucci is back. Our beloved Stanley Tucci, beautifully dressed and tanned, is back on CNN in season 3 of his tours of his native Italy, and we’re happy to see him eating again.

So far we’ve watched one of our favorite actors prowling the streets of, (let me check my notes, and there are pages of them on my iPhone) Puglia, Sardinia, Liguria and his latest which debuted Oct. 9 on CNN, Calabria.

In all of these four regions, Tucci offers their regional specialties. (Let me check my note again, I only speak the street dialect of Rome). Calabria’s ‘nduja (that’s the way it’s spelled and I can’t pronounce that) Sardinia’s roasted suckling piglet, and the dozens of way to cook spaghetti in all those tiny villages.

To be honest, I failed to capture the glory of Calabria, and if I were Tucci, I would avoided it.

By his own admission, the entire region is a political mess, and owned by the Calabrian Mafia.

To his credit, and his family who all come from Calabria, he did his best trying to get us to taste the onions from a far distant part of the region.

It’s sweeter than any onion in the world.

Tucci, as he always does, stood in the field with the owner and took a big bite.

“Oh my goodness,” he exclaimed. Of course he did, he always does.

You can check out all the many faces of Tucci’s Italy: Rome, Venice and London (yes London, where there are apparently more Italians than in Venice).

Still we love watching Tucci chat with locals everywhere, in cafes, restaurants and deli counters where he nibbles at pieces of mortadella, pancetta and calabrese salami.

Sitting here in Maine’s chilly nights, it’s soul warming to watch Tucci, dressed in immaculate blue jackets and jeans, with black owl glasses, perched on his Calabrian nose, sip a dark vino, and munch on a bowl of Pasta Alla Gricia, cacio e pepe pasta (my favorite) and vesuvio al Ragu di Salsiccia, while eating our dinner of our homemade margarita pizza. Buon appetito!
