The deadline to apply for Maine’s $850 COVID-19 relief checks is Monday.

Full-time residents must file a 2021 Maine income tax return to receive the payments, which is based on adjusted gross income. Eligible residents who have filed a 2021 Maine tax return received their check in June.

However, seniors receiving Social Security and others who do not typically file tax returns will need to file a 2021 Maine tax return by Monday to receive their check.

Those eligible must not be claimed as a dependent, and must have a federal adjusted gross income of $100,000 if filing single or if married and filing separately, $150,000 if filing as head of household, or $200,000 for couples filing jointly.

According to the state, an estimated 858,000 individuals will ultimately receive the check. The checks are part of a $1.2 billion supplemental state budget that was approved by lawmakers and signed by Mills in April.
