Eva (Couture) Lacasse

JACKMAN – Eva (Couture) Lacasse, 94, of Jackman, passed away on Oct. 24, 2022, while a resident at Northern Light Continuing Care, Lakewood Nursing Home in Waterville.

Eva was born in Connor, Maine on March 30, 1928, to Henry and Julie (Chasse) Couture. Growing up, she resided in several locations across Maine, due to her father’s occupation. While living in the Long Pond area, she met the love of her life Damien, who she married on March 9, 1943.

Eva loved to keep busy by making crafts. One of her biggest projects was making and selling braided rugs with the help of Damien. Many rugs were given to her children and grandchildren. She loved hunting and over the years she shot several deer. Nothing was wasted and she always found a way to make delicious meals that were affordable. Gardening was another hobby she liked; what the family could not consume she would give away or can it. She was employed as a cook at various restaurants throughout the Jackman area. Eva retired from full-time work at Forest Hills School where she proudly served as a cook.

Along with her parents, and husband of 66 years, Eva was predeceased by her sister Cecile Cyr, brothers Henry Couture and Armand Couture; son-in-law Jon Varney, daughter-in-law Louise Lacasse; grandson Vaughn Varney; and great-grandson Braden Lacasse.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Ramona Varney of Long Pond, Raymond Lacasse and Wendy of East Haven, Conn., Francis Lacasse and his wife Louise, Allen Dayle Lacasse and his wife Cindy, and Deanna Bowden and her husband Alfred, all of Long Pond. Eva is also the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her sisters Bertha Michaud, Mary Wardwell, and Lena Achey; as well as many other extended family members.

Services will be held at the St. Faustina Catholic Church of St. Anthony Parish in Jackman with Fr. Hyacinth Fornkwa, as officiant. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, and 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, 2022. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Oct. 31, 2022, at 11 a.m. followed by a burial at the St. Anthony Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion Hall, Main Street, Jackman.

The family would like to thank the staff of Jackman Region Health Center, Somerset Rehab, and Lakewood Continuing Care for their loving care and support of Eva over the past several years.
