Sally Jeanne Elizabeth Kappler

TOPSHAM – Sally Jeanne Elizabeth Kappler, 78, of Topsham, died on Oct 20, 2022.

She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Charles J. and Jeanne (Dieffenbach) Kappler of Topsham and sister of Barbara K. Howard of Asheville, N.C., all of who predeceased her. Her marriage to David W. Anderson, of Arlington, Mass., ended in 1987.

After her education in public schools in Connecticut and Maryland, Sally Jeanne received a B.A. degree from Centre College and a M.S. in Library Service from Columbia University. She also completed three years of doctoral-level study at Indiana University.

During her 40-year professional, career, Sally Jeanne served in academic, school and public libraries in five different states. Her last position was as a reference librarian at the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick. Sally Jeanne was very active in library professional associations and held leadership positions at the state, regional and national levels.

She greatly enjoyed southern gospel music and often travelled far to attend concerts. A life member of the Girl Scouts of America, she directed summer day camps in Maine and New Hampshire. Sally Jeanne also participated in various church activities, most recently at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick. She served over 25 years in healing prayer ministry and in 2009 was proud to be accepted into full membership in the International Order of St. Luke the Physician, a world-wide ecumenical organization dedicated to the Christian healing ministry.

Friends will remember her for her creativity, generosity, extensive knowledge base and never-ending curiosity.
