BINGHAM — Upper Kennebec Valley Junior/Senior High School in Bingham dedicated a newly renovated workshop and classroom building to Douglas Arno on Oct. 11.
The building, which had been used for storage for over a decade, was returned to student use through an extensive renovation designed by Wentworth Partners and Associates of Skowhegan. Construction work was completed by BNF Building Contractor of Moscow.
The building is now equipped with an exercise room, a large classroom and a student workshop.
The space is being used for hands-on projects in Valley’s growing programs in agricultural education, wildlife studies, outdoor education and STEAM.
Arno was a lifetime resident of Bingham who died in 2019. He created a scholarship fund for the students of Bingham.
The Douglas L. Arno Memorial Fund provides a student from each graduating class with a $10,000 scholarship.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
