In debate talk, buzzwords disturb, rather than convey facts or engage thought. Hopes are promised, whether candidates can deliver or not.
More important than talk is candidates’ walk, where and with whom. After walking out of Maine, Paul LePage returned from Florida walks with Trump and DeSantis, through Virginia with Gov. Youngkin, past Nebraska with Gov. Ricketts, spreading to Maine their views on COVID, equity, public education, personal health care, constitutional integrity, etc.
Meanwhile, Gov. Janet Mills used public health science to walk a path (better than many states) through COVID’s emergency unknowns, preventing deaths, preserving economy, building community support and immunity to safely sustain education, etc. While other states undermine voting rights, personal/spiritual health decisions, climate sustainability; she walks Maine’s leadership role.
LePage’s less abrasive talk may not last, as he walks the platforms of his party and other states. Keep Maine the way life should be.
