Douglas A. “Doug” Vashon

WINSLOW – Douglas A. “Doug” Vashon, 79, passed away at home with his wife Linda, by his side on Sept. 26, 2022. He and Linda were married in Winslow in November 2000.

Doug was born in Waterville, on Sept. 14, 1943, to Frank G. and Lillian J. (Gagnon) Vashon. Doug loved celebrating his birthdays.

Doug and his mom moved to South Windsor in 1962. He attended South Windsor High School. He worked at Alden Upholstery in Windsor, Conn., for many years, he was professionally trained in the craft of upholsterer. In 1984 he worked at Manchester Community College in the Maintenance Dept. It’s there Doug became proficient at plumbering and landscaping. He retired in 1995.

Doug was known to be a real handyman around the house. When his family and friends needed help they would always call on him. He made all sorts of useful gadgets to make his job easier. In the winter months he would knit hats and hand them out.

Doug and Linda enjoyed fishing on the lake – one of his favorite pastimes. He loved watching Monday night wrestling and old black/white TV shows. Doug enjoyed gatherings with families and friends. Your families will miss you Doug, we love you, God bless, and may you rest in peace.

He is survived by his brother Gene Vashon of Texas, sister Nancy Lausier and her husband Raymond of Conn., brother-in-law Patrick Lausier of Conn., and Godchild Jericho Lausier of California; stepdaughters, Glenda Lessard of Waterville, her children Amanda and husband Mark Bonilla of New York, and Samantha Lessard of New York; Lynette and her husband Michael Bolduc of Winslow and children, Michael Poirer, and Crystal Poirier and her husband Fuad Umar and their children, Sherri and her husband John Brooker of Palermo and daughters, Chelsea Morin and Haley Morin; sister-in-law JoAnne and her husband Walter Sward of Manchester, Conn.; nieces, Rhonda McIntyre and Michele Miller of Texas, Roseann Morris of Georgia, Karen Norton, Debra Whalen and Brenda Schmid of Conn., nephews, Cary Lausier of California, and Larry Vashon Jr. of Florida; many grand nieces and grand nephews; cousins, and friends.

Douglas was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Barbieri of Windsor Locks, Conn. They were married 22 years. He is also prdeceased by his brother Donald Vashon, and half-brother Larry Vashon, and his sister Doris V Lausier.

Funeral services will be held at Notre Dame Church, 116 Silver St., Waterville, on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 10:15 a.m. Burial Services will be held at St Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove St., Waterville, on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 10:15 a.m., weather permitting.
