WINTHROP – Hartley A Palleschi, 86 of Winthrop died in his home on Monday Nov. 7, 2022.

He was born March 18, 1936, the son of Loreto and Rita Alden Palleschi and lived his entire life in Winthrop. He attended Winthrop Schools and in 1954 married his high school sweetheart Lois Harriman. Together they shared 45 years of marriage until her death in 1999.

After high school Hartley worked for Howard Harriman Plumbing and Heating, then spent many years at Inmont Corporation and Carleton Woolen Mills. But it wasn’t until after his “first retirement” from the mills that he found his true passion working at the YMCA Camp of Maine. He spent 20 years doing maintenance and grounds work there and loved every minute. He especially enjoyed the interactions with the campers, counselors and staff and took great pride in his work there.

Hartley was also a 39-year member of the Winthrop Fire Department, serving 33 years as chief.

Hartley was predeceased by wife Lois, sisters, Nita and Marion, and brother Everett.

Survivors include two sisters, Lottie Carlson and Elda Sanborn and brother Joseph Palleschi. As well as brother-in-law Lee Harriman.

He is also survived by his five children: Hartley Jr and wife Abby, Carmen Sing and partner Mike Snow, Richard and his husband Thomas Emerick, John and his partner Jackie Blodgett and Carolyn Dennett and her partner Michael Boardman. He was a proud Grampa to Brian and Laura Sing, Tyler and Alexa Sing, David and Paige Palleschi, Johnna Palleschi, Willis Palleschi, Cody Dennett and Randi and Michael Shaw. He was also a proud Great-Grampa to Nolan Thompson, Isla Sing, Alden Sing, and Byron Hartley Palleschi.

Hartley’s visiting hours will be at the YMCA Camp of Maine, 305 Winthrop Center Road, Winthrop on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., followed by a funeral service. The burial at Glenside Cemetery Winthrop will be private.
