Richard E. Treadwell

HALLOWELL – Richard E. Treadwell, 92, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, at his home in Hallowell.

He was born Feb. 21, 1930, the son of Earl and Glenora (Tweedie) Treadwell.

Richard was educated in Bangor before enlisting and proudly serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Tarawa. He was honorably discharged on September 30, 1964.

Richard was employed as a truck driver for many many years before his retirement. Aside from driving trucks, family meant everything to him. He was a dedicated and loving family man with a wonderful sense of humor; a real jokester who always made people laugh. He also enjoyed watching football and western movies and was an avid Gunsmoke watcher. Richard will be missed by all who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Richard is survived by wife, Jacqueline, of Hallowell; four sons, Robert Heyer of Florida and Russell, Richard and Randy Heyer, all of Maine; four daughters, Lisa Purcell of Arizona and Terry Gallagher, Rita Pierce and Rebecca Ferris, all of Maine; as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard’s life will be celebrated in a committal service with full military honors at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, in the chapel at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of ones’ choice.
