Alfred E. Poitras

MANCHESTER – Alfred E. Poitras, 76, passed away after a long illness on Nov. 22, 2022 at MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta. He was born October 31, 1946, the only child of Leon and Louise (Falcone) Poitras.

Al grew up in Westbrook and was a graduate of Chevrus High School in the Class of 1964. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Maine at Orono. On January 18, 1970, he married Carol Bailey in Cooperstown, NY, and the two settled in Manchester and raised a daughter, Christine.

For 41 years, Al was a dedicated employee at Central Maine Power, working as an electrical engineer. An intelligent man, he was a hard worker who took great pride in his work. His job also afforded him many travel opportunities throughout the United States as well as a few countries in Europe for various company projects. Shortly after “retiring” from CMP in October of 2009, he went on to work for TRC Companies for 12 more years until full retirement in January of 2022.

Although he enjoyed and had great fulfillment from his work, above all else, he loved his family and friends dearly. Some of Al’s hobbies included coin collecting and being a HAM radio operator.

He was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol Poitras; his daughter, Christine Poitras of Manchester; his sisters in law, Virginia Elliott and her husband Don of Milford, NY, and Linda Carson of Ilion, NY; along with several cousins, aunts and uncles.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and nurses at MaineGeneral for the care Al was given, and thanks to the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care in Augusta where he was a patient (and friend) there for many years.

Per his request, no funeral services are being held for Al. A celebration of life will be announced at a future date and time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, Maine. Condolences, stories, and photos may be shared by visiting http://www.plummerfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Al’s name may be made to an organization of your choice.
