UNION — Vose Library’s patrons and friends are invited to a Portugal Armchair Adventure Wednesday Program at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Vose Library at 392 Common Road in Union or via Zoom.
Is a trip to Portugal on a bucket list? Come along on a three-month road trip through Portugal’s countryside with Tim and Laurie Warden. Enjoy the opulence of the palacios in Sintra near Lisbon, then travel south to the beautiful Algarve along the southern coast with its golden rocky cliffs and secluded sand beaches, according to a news release from Diane True, library assistant.
Traveling north, visit Obidos, a lovely ancient walled town, see the monasteries at Bathala, Alcobaca and Tomar. Other highlights include the Douro River valley with acres of grapevines, the high country of the Serra de Estrela where you can still see shepherds at work, blanket over their shoulder, walking along with their flock. Visit the eastern border with castles dotting the landscape, some are very unique.
In-person events are subject to transition to fully virtual should COVID-19 impact the ability to meet in person.
For more information or to receive a Zoom registration link, call 207-785-4733, email [email protected] or stop by the library.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
