The Monmouth Memorial School Student Government plans to host a Stuff the Bus Community Food Drive 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, for the Cottrell-Taylor Christmas Baskets. Last year, Monmouth schools along with the community collected almost 4,000 items and provided many families with food for the holidays.
Collection will be held at 1111 Main St. in Monmouth. To make sure everyone is safe everyone is asked to pull into the loop entrance, drivers are asked to pull up to the drop off station and pop vehicle’s trunk. A student will retrieve donated items. Drivers and passengers are asked to stay in their vehicles.
Students and staff will be there ready to receive items such as peanut butter, crackers, canned vegetables and fruit, cake/cookie/brownie mixes, mac and cheese, canned spaghetti sauce, pasta, cereal, rice, granola or fruit bars, jello or pudding mix. Do not bring anything perishable, expired, damaged or in glass containers.
Donations will go toward the Cottrell Taylor Foundation’s Christmas Baskets and any additional food items will go toward Monmouth’s local food pantries.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
