Arthur G. Brunelle

AUGUSTA – Arthur G. Brunelle passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2022 at the Hospice wing at the Veterans Administration Medical and Regional Office Center at Togus after a short illness, with his loving wife, Sumi Brunelle and his sister, Betty by his side. Arthur was born on Jan. 30, 1942 in Augusta, to Arthur R. Brunelle and Eva Brunelle.

Arthur was the middle child of five children, Robert (Bob), Elizabeth (Betty), Roger and Richard. Arthur and his siblings were close as they grew up and all remained living on the same road that their parents did for most of their lives.

As an adult, Arthur served in the US Army during the Vietnam war. After returning from the war, Arthur married Darlene Brunelle whom he had seven children with, Jason, Daniel, Shawn, Eric, Kevin, Aaron and Jillain. Arthur and Darlene were married for 27 years before he became widowed.

After 10 years of being alone, Arthur met and fell in love with his current wife Sumi; he became a stepfather to two more sons, Michael and Donald Ballard. Arthur and Sumi spent every day together, attending church, gardening, praying the rosary and were best friends. While Arthur was sick in the hospital Sumi was by his side every day, along with his brother Bob, Bob’s wife Nancy, and his sister Betty.

In Arthurs younger years, he enjoyed spending time outside, canoeing, working in the yard, camping, and going to the ocean to scuba dive. Arthur taught his children to scuba dive during their may trips to the ocean, he enjoyed teaching his children about nature and God. As he became older his activities were limited but he still loved the outdoors and spent many hours in his garden with his wife, Sumi. Arthur will be remembered as a devote Catholic who always put God above anything else in his life, he created a foundation of faith for his family.

Arthur was predeceased by both his parents, Eva and Arthur R. Brunelle; his brother Richard and sister-in-law Nancy Brunelle, his brother-in-law Raymond Gay; and many other friends and family.
