Donald A. “Donnie” Kinney

MONMOUTH – Donald A. “Donnie” Kinney, 78, died on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, in the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta following a brief illness. He is the husband of the late Linda Lee (Butman) Kinney.

Donnie was born Feb. 4, 1944, in Lewiston, son of the late Fred and Martha (Chick) Kinney. He was a lifelong resident of Monmouth and was a graduate of Monmouth Academy Class of 1963.

Donnie worked as a recreational director at Augusta Mental Health Institute for many years until his retirement. After retiring Donnie worked for the Town of Monmouth at the Transfer Station where he had many lifelong friends.

For over 40 years he loved entertaining and looked forward to the 4th of July barbecue at his camp in Winthrop on Maranacook Lake where there would be swimming, kayaking, water tubing, and lots of great food, topped off with a ride around the lake on his boat.

Donnie loved snowmobiling and was a life member of the Cochnewagan Trailblazers where he held many offices which included club president, an office he held for several terms. He also served on many committees and projects over his 45 plus years as a member and tirelessly worked on the 40 plus miles of snowmobile trails located in Monmouth, setting a high standard! He was also great at cribbage, playing cards, board games. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was loyal to the soft drink Moxie and was know to wear his Moxie clothing as well.

Donnie is survived by his sister Barbara Sultan and her husband Robert of Leeds. His niece Dr. Kristy (Murray) Pulsifer of So. Portland, his nephews Jeff Murray of Auburn and Billy Murray and his wife Susan of Auburn. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including his longtime friend from fourth grade Keith Gile of Sangerville.

In honoring Donnie’s wishes there will be no funeral services and burial in the Readfield Corner Cemetery will be held privately.
