Charles Henry Tobin

NEW JERSEY – Charles Henry Tobin, also lovingly known as Charlie or Chuck, 68, passed away at his home in New Jersey on Nov. 11, 2022, with his loving partner Terry by his side. He had recently been diagnosed with cancer.

Chuck was born in Gardiner, Maine, on April 3, 1954, to Joseph A. Tobin and Mary Morin Tobin of Whitefield. He attended Whitefield Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1972. Following his graduation, he worked in various local construction jobs but still made himself available to help out his Uncle Chet Chase in sundry adventures that might entail activities both mundane and dangerous!! Charlie became a union worker and he worked alongside his father for a number of years at Centraline and then later J. Fletcher Creamer Co. He was able to travel all over the world while doing this work until he retired around 2010.

In 1980 Chuck married Cindy Monarque and they blended a family of three sons, Christopher, Kyle and Billy. They lived in Maine for a while but ultimately settled in Pennsylvania.

As happens, life brings on changes and years later, Chuck met Terry Dean and they went on to spend 20 years together. In that time, Terry has said that Chuck was a thoughtful and kind father and stepfather who lovingly counseled and guided all ‘his boys’ into adulthood on the importance of responsibility, integrity, generosity, devotion, fun and having the right tools! Also noting it was important to always carry a handkerchief, always keep some money in your pocket and always be respectful to women.

Charlie was an avid reader, writer and a creative do it yourself-er completing many projects for both family and friends. Being the perfectionist that he was, he was known to “Chuckify” everything that he designed and built. Charlie started ‘glamping’ before it became vogue, wowing people with the camping spread he could pull out of his pickup, kind of like a three-ring circus. He was a very loyal friend and even if he hadn’t seen you in years, the bond was immediate again whether singing old songs, sharing old stories or even new ones. He was truly an extraordinary man and it is certainly worth noting that on this November 30th he would have completed 17 years of sobriety. Well done, dear Chuck/Charlie.

Chuck was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his son, Tech. Sgt. Christopher Tobin and wife Master Sgt. Veronica Tobin, their children Noah, Naima and Ariah; son Kyle Tobin and wife Jennifer Tobin, their children Connor and Logan; William Tobin and wife Theresa, their daughter Maya; his partner Terry Dean and her sons, Michael, Matthew and Patrick McGinn and her grandson Evan; his sisters, Ann Bishop, MaryJo Higgins and Terri Reynolds and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his partner’s extended family.

There will be a celebration of life later in the spring of 2023.
