William S. “Bill” Weiss

MOUNT VERNON – William S. “Bill” Weiss, 68, passed away on Dec. 17, 2022, from pancreatic cancer, at his home in Mount Vernon, with his wife by his side.

A beloved human being, Bill is survived by his adoring wife, Betsy Abeles Weiss, also of Mount Vernon, his children, daughter, Jennifer Maloney, her husband Bobby, and their son Joseph of Fairfield, Conn., daughter Alison Rothschild, her partner Jay Henihan of Berlin, Mass., and his son, Jack, Joshua and wife, Lara Pagano, of Columbia, Md. Bill is also survived by two step daughters; Rachel Kravitz of Worcester, Mass., and Mollie Kravitz of Cumberland Foreside, by his late brother Tom’s partner, Mary McCall, of Waltham, Mass.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Amy (Trebbin) Weiss and David Weiss and by his dear, funny brother, Dr. Tom Weiss.

Bill graduated from Longmeadow High School in Massachusetts, the University of Massachusetts/Amherst, and Wake Forest Law School.

Bill spent nearly 40 years proudly serving the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the last 20 of which were served as the First Assistant Clerk Magistrate in the Worcester Housing Court. He was dedicated to his life’s work and his staff, whom he cared for deeply.

Bill’s passions were his family, American history, literature and language, New Orleans, Banjo, his Boxer dog, and Oliver, his feline sidekick, the Pats and Bruins, the film “1776”, great neighbors, and his wild socks.

He loved to smoke a pork shoulder for entertaining. He was known for his tender, generous, loving, devoted manner and taking time to let people know he loved them.

He was a thoughtful, selfless and terribly clever-witted, gentle man. He felt that he and Betsy had found their Camelot in a charming Maine village, in their home on the lake.

Infinite appreciation for the remarkable care Bill experienced from the teams at the Alfond Cancer Center and Belgrade Health Center.

Following cremation, there will be a celebration of Bill at the Mount Vernon Community Center, January 7, at 1 p.m. All are asked to share memories and stories from your experiences with Bill. We’d like all who can to come wearing Hawaiian shirts for Bill. A celebration of life will also take place at the Worcester, Mass., Historical Society, January 14 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests

donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at http://www.cff.org or to the Harold A. Alfond Center for Cancer Care, Augusta ME at give@MaineGeneral.org.
