Do you think Maine drivers are speeding more or being more reckless than usual?
It’s been a deadly year on Maine’s roads. The state is expected to finish the year with its highest number of highway fatalities in 15 years, the Associated Press reported.
Maine Bureau of Highway Safety officials said the high number of road deaths comes as a pandemic trend continues of more instances of speeding and reckless driving across the state.
The bureau said the unofficial number of highway deaths stood at 177 on Wednesday, Dec. 28, making it the worst year since 2007, when 183 people died. Officials said drivers have been more aggressive during the pandemic, with bad driving behavior also involving increased instances of not wearing a seatbelt or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
