Peggy C. Mascher

HALLOWELL – The Door Has Opened for Peggy C. Mascher to Go Home.

Peg Mascher was born in Stoneham and spent her childhood in New Jersey, St. Louis, Mo., and New Hampshire. She met her husband, Gary Mascher, while both were serving at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital in 1968, before Gary was posted to the USS Sanctuary Hospital ship in Viet Nam as a psychiatric corpsman. Upon his return to the States in the summer of 1969, they were married in Wolfeboro, N.H.

They moved to Boston to work at the Massachusetts General Hospital; Gary in Psychiatry and Peg, for whom MCH was her Alma Mater, in Critical Care Units, culminating with a Unit Teacher Position in the Burn Unit. They both continued to further their education, Peg at Northeastern. Peg worked in a few local hospitals and obtained a B.A. and an MSN at the University of Massachusetts.

In 1989, Peg and Gary moved to Litchfield, and worked for Motivational Services with people coming out of AMHI. Peg ended her working career as a Clinical Supervisor at Tri County Mental Health in Lewiston.

Peg loved musical theatre; she and Gary were season ticket holders at the Maine State Music Theater in Brunswick. They also traveled cross country on Amtrak trains to visit family and see the United States. In Litchfield, they maintained extensive gardens and fed many birds, whose visits Peg kept in her heart. In 2022 Peg and Gary moved to Granite Hill Estates in Hallowell where they settled in easily, Gary leading a meditation group; Peg joined the Arts Committee and displayed her own distinctive art of swirling color and design.

In December of 2022 Peg was hospitalized and went home on Dec. 28, 2022, leaving her cat, Rosie, and her beloved husband, Gary, who will hold her memory close to their hearts.
