Alfred was a very hardworking man all of his life and started working at a very young age to help the family. He worked at Norwock Shoe as a hand stitcher. He was a milkman for Maple Lane Farm. He served three years in the Army being stationed in Korea and Germany as an MP. He would still help the family out by sending money home from every paycheck.

When Alfred came home, he met the love of his life, Roberta A. (Duley) Mayo, and they married May 11, 1953. They made their home in Anson. He then worked for Kennebec Pulp and Paper which later became Madison Paper Co. and working there until his retirement in 1994.

Alfred was always doing something to keep himself busy. He loved to hunt and fly fish, and mastered the art of tying flies. He and Roberta enjoyed many opportunities for camping especially along the Maine coast. He loved music and going to the “Picking Party” at the Embden Community Center. He played the accordion, harmonica and guitar and discovered a new talent when he retired, which was woodcarving.
