
Ben Conant
NORWAY – Ben Conant, Norway, Maine native, retired state liquor inspector, volunteer fire fighter, US Navy Class “A” pipefitter, Chief Deputy of Oxford County Sherriff Office, then later Chief of the Civil Division Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, hunter, fisherman, staunch MSAEA Union activist and much loved, lifelong Mainer passed away at the age of 86 on Nov. 22, 2022 from congestive heart failure. Ben was one of three children born to Stephen and Barbara Conant and the parent with his late wife Muriel of four children, one of whom his beloved daughter Sherry predeceased him
Ben is survived by his daughter Billy Conant and her husband Kevin Sweeney, daughter Chrissy and husband Edward Gooldrup, son Ben; sister Barbara Linn and husband George Townsend, brother Robert; son-in-law Darrell Sherburne. In addition to seven grandchildren Bryan, Brent and wife Lisa Conant, Chad and CJ Conant, Justin Sherburne, Tia Sherburne and fiancé Drew Florez; nine great grandchildren; niece Jo-Lynn Tibbetts, and nephews Steve and George Townsend; close friends Eric Rollins, John Longley, Mike and Lori Rabbit, Jean and Ed Dunn, Steve Aldrich, David Weeks, Penny Whitney Asdorian and Bernard Bird and Mark Rancourt, and many more too numerous to mention.
Ben also leaves behind his partner and great love Carla Greenleaf for the last seven wonderful happy years they lived in her Oakland home where he meticulously maintained the property. They enjoyed camping and spending time at NHMS in Loudon, NH where he worked for many years during race season. He will be sadly missed and forever loved.
There will be services in the spring.
