SKOWHEGAN — A Skowhegan man and woman were arrested Wednesday morning on drug trafficking charges after police executed a search warrant at their home, officials said.

Thomas McKay, 36, and Jamie Witt, 29, were arrested after deputies from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office searched the residence at 140 Madison Ave. at about 6:30 a.m., according to an announcement from Sheriff Dale Lancaster.

McKay was arrested on charges of aggravated trafficking in a schedule W drug, possession of scheduled drugs, violating condition of release and two outstanding warrants from the state of Maine, according to Lancaster. McKay is also considered a fugitive from justice because he has two outstanding arrest warrants in Massachusetts stemming from drug trafficking charges.

Witt was charged with aggravated trafficking in a schedule W drug.

During the search, the Sheriff’s Office seized more than 6 grams of fentanyl, digital scales, drug packaging materials and drug-related documentation and paraphernalia, Lancaster said.

McKay and Witt’s initial court appearance is scheduled for April 5 at Skowhegan District Court.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Massachusetts State Police assisted the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation and search.
