EMBDEN – Adam Everett Soosman, born Sept. 20, 1968.

“Morning has broken like the first morning, praise for the singing, praise for the morning.”

Jan. 4, 2023, our hearts were broken, when you left us too soon.

Adam was educated at Marshfield High School graduating in 1986.

Adam, Pooh, Studied Jazz and Contemporary Music at University of Maine at Augusta.

Studied way too much partying at Brandeis University, also Liberal Arts.

Studied Education at University of Maine at Augusta.

Adam was an instructor of woodwind, voice and brass at Musicians 1st Choice School of Music and Performance. He appreciated private lessons, mentioned to be his favorite, “they come because they like music as much as I do.”

He taught elementary school music and middle school band and chorus at many districts throughout the state.

He performed as a front man, singer, saxophonist, flutist, harpist etc, etc. Adam worked with many bands across the state, opening for big name bands, such as Steppinwolf and playing for George Bush in Kennebunkport one summer, booking wedding functions, private affairs, clubs and pubs.

Adam was well known in the music scene, playing in and fronting many bands and duos for over 30 years, Smoked Salmon, Holy Moly, Kenya Funk, Souled Out, Salty Dog, The Shack, Jones’n, and Dirty Limerickers to name a few. To name every band that asked Adam to bring his horn, would fill the page. The musical family has lost a great talent, he was a chameleon, being able to play and sing authentically in many different styles, quick on the learn. The Soosman’s enjoyed being a part of the community, many instantly became family to us.

Adam was well spoken, never a loss for words and highly intelligent. He was a family man, a friend, a teacher, a talent and true inspiration. Strong in character, an individual, eclectic in nature, ever the student, always eager to learn something new and always achieved whatever he set for goals,

An avid reader, always a book in hand. “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us” J.R.R Tolkien

He enjoyed adventure and getting lost. Every August he would find a new mountain to hike with his wife Terry to celebrate their anniversary, with snacks and kisses when they reached the tops.

He showed his love with delicious home cooked meals, he was a professional in the kitchen and shared his skills with his daughter, Abigayle. They would have contest to see who could make the better pie, made with blueberries picked from his property and with apples from the annual orchard outings, taken every September in honor of Adam’s birthday,

A full pantry of jarred goods, all made and seasoned from his garden’s harvest, he filled every shelf.

Adam shared his love of movies, mostly musicals with his son, Aaron, they would share references and came to look forward to time together on a rainy day, with hot air popcorn and a good movie.

Adam looked forward to family trips, and travels to Florida to visit his mother, Myra Soosman and partner for life Tim Supovitz. Adam always planned the perfect trip, every adventure taken with him was a memorable one.

Adam dreamed of fame. If fame was measured in friendships, famous he was, with lifelong friends, that were made along the way and stayed connected throughout the years.

Adam is survived by his wife, his biggest fan, his roadie, dance partner, adventure companion and soul mate Terry A. Soosman. Children, his beautiful daughter Abigayle Ballard and compassionate son Aaron Soosman, all from Embden.

His spunky mother, Myra Leone Soosman and forever partner Tim Supovitz both of Ellenton, Florida,

The Soosman’s extend thank you’s to the Maine General Team, Adam and Terry came to know as friends, offering kind words of encouragement, hugs and strength when we could not find our own.

“You can have your own set of wings with your feet on the ground, you’re a bird in flight with your fist holding tight to the string of your kite. When you send it flying up there, all at once you are lighter than air, you can dance on the breeze over houses and trees”

A remembrance for Adam will take place on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, from 1-5 p.m., at the Solon Hotel, Maine Street, Solon, Maine.

Please come to share stories, hugs and your musical talents as we will spend the time as Adam enjoyed, surrounded by love and music.
