Ruth Elizabeth Kennedy

SKOWHEGAN – Ruth Elizabeth Kennedy, 97, passed away after a long battle with dementia. Ruth was born on Aug. 4, 1925, in Brockton, Mass., to the late Jerome and Helen (Drinkwater) Packard.

Ruth and her husband, Frank Kennedy, moved from Camden to Skowhegan in 1955, at that time they bought McLaughin Taxi which they owned for four years. Ruth later went to work for Gagnon’s Jewelry store for 25 years. After retirement they spent most of their time and enjoyment at their camp on Kingsbury Pond.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents and her husband Frank.

She is survived by her daughter Shirley Rice (Bill) of Alna, her son David Kennedy of Montgomery, Ala., and her daughter Mary Laweryson (Robert) of Skowhegan. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth’s family would like to thank the many hospice angels for all of their continuous love, guidance, and support throughout the remaining three years of Ruth’s life. The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to all of the caregivers for their devotion and compassion. Their kindness exceeded expectations and they definitely made her days brighter. Special recognition to Dr. Pokop for his years of exceptional care and dedication.
