Do you favor changing Maine’s longtime chickadee license plate to a new one with the pine tree image?

State officials have released a proposal for a new vehicle registration plate incorporating the pine tree image from the state’s historic 1901 flag. It features a buff background, a navy blue star and a dark green pine tree, while still including the state’s nickname, Vacationland, across the bottom.

If the proposal is approved, it would replace the chickadee design that’s been in circulation since 1999.

The new plates would be issued to Mainers registering their cars between March 2025 and the end of February 2026, officials said.

The plate-change proposal will be considered by members of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee over the next several weeks, after which it will go to the full chamber for consideration.

But what do you think? Do you favor a proposal to change Maine’s longtime chickadee license plate to a new one with the pine tree image from the state’s 1901 flag? Tell us in the poll and in the comments below.
